Harivillu 1
Location: Bondalawada, Andhra Pradesh
Completed: 2018 - present
Volunteers: Allison Stout and Sarah Sandberg
The Anganwadi Project’s inaugural anganwadi with RDT (Rural Development Trust) is located in a rural village in Andhra Pradesh called Bondalawada, located 45 minutes from the city of Anantapur.
The design of the school responds to the hot dry climate through a double layer roof construction that reduces heat penetration into the class and encourages passive ventilation. Named by the community Harivillu, meaning ‘rainbow’ in Telegu, this school provides the children with a bright, cool space to enjoy.
Construction completed April 2019.
“Thanks to The Anganwadi Project and Rural Development Trust to build such a beautiful building and dedicating it to the children & mothers.” Mrs. Chinmayi, Project Director
“I am very delighted by this building. It has all facilities like classroom, kitchen, toilet and lights. I can come happily to school even in summer as it has fan facility.”– a local child
