Bholu 2 is located on the main thoroughfare of the Tekra slum, in close proximity to Bholu 1. It was the first pre-school which completed in collaboration with Architects Without Frontiers. Designed by architects Jane Rothschild and Paul Tilse, this anganwadi initially had a rocky start with a change in the location of the site post-design. The initial design incorporated imaginative mural art for the children, including swinging monkeys and long-legged elephants on the walls, painted by the volunteers.
In 2011, in response to the teacher’s and children’s requirements for a larger learning area, additional storage and better security, volunteer Jesus Porres- Montesino designed a beautiful extension and renovation to Bholu 2 transforming it into a spacious, light, airy and colourful learning space which takes advantage of its freestanding site to gather sunlight and breezes.
Completed January 2008 by Jodie Fried, Jane Rothschild and Paul Tilse.
Extended and renovated in 2011 by Volunteers Jesus Porras Montesino and Caroline Kite.
