The Anganwadi Project (TAP) is looking for experienced Australian-based volunteer architects who would like to live and work for 4- 6 months in Andhra Pradesh, India, from November 2018.
The position we are currently looking to fill is for a project architect/architects to work on a team in an exciting new collaboration with Rural Development Trust (RDT), an NGO based in Andhra Pradesh. The anganwadis TAP designs for this organisation will be built in rural villages and are constructed by local labourers using largely re-cycled materials.

Our TAP volunteers live and work in Ahmedabad, Gujurat, India in a voluntary capacity to help work on and rebuild local preschools (Anganwadis) in an urban slum community. Volunteers will be working closely with the NGO (Non- Government Organisation) Manav Sadhna in Ahmedabad, in the development and rebuilding/renovating of preschools in the Tekra Slum Community.
Most TAP pre-schools will be new buildings, fully designed by the volunteers; however some of the pre schools will need basic renovations such as new floors, windows, doors and ventilation. TAP Volunteers will be part of a small team which will be responsible for assessing potential sites, providing concept designs and construction documentation and administering construction with local builders on site.
The TAP preschools are part of an existing Anganwadi Program run by Manav Sadhna, which provides underprivileged slum children a daily nutritious meal, education and medical health check ups. Most of the anganwadis are small, poorly lit and have little or no ventilation and are a simple room in private home. Many are in need of urgent attention, and even a small change can go a long way to help these children’s learning environment.
As a Volunteer, you will be giving back so much to a community that needs your help. We congratulate you for taking the first step to being a part of our team. Your experience and legacy will pave the way for future teams and will help us to keep our work effective.
The satisfaction you will get from working with underprivileged communities in India who have nothing and want to give you everything will be overwhelming. And the differences, no matter how small, are something you will remember forever.
Graduate Architects with site experience need only apply. If you are interested in volunteering with our project please email us.
Our dedicated volunteers each fundraise for The Anganwadi Project before leaving for their stay in India. Our volunteers have raised over $30,000 dollars for the project, as well as donating their time and expertise.
Please join them and become a part of The Anganwadi Project!
