Applications for our 2018/2019 building season are closed
We have had an overwhelming response for our 2018/2019 building season with many great applicants to choose from. We have now filled these positions so applications are now closed until next year.
Keep up to date with the progress on the new anganwadis on our social media pages when the new volunteers head to India later in 2018.
The Anganwadi Project (TAP) sends 2 to 4 qualified design professionals to volunteer in India for 4-6 months each year. Our TAP volunteers live and work in India in a voluntary capacity to help work on and rebuild local preschools (Anganwadis) in an urban slum community. Volunteers will be working closely with the NGO (Non- Government Organisation) Manav Sadhna in Ahmedabad, Gujurat and Rural Development Trust in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
Most TAP pre-schools will be new buildings, fully designed by the volunteers; however some of the pre schools will need basic renovations such as new floors, windows, doors and ventilation. TAP Volunteers will be part of a small team which will be responsible for assessing potential sites, providing concept designs and construction documentation and administering construction with local builders on site.
The TAP preschools are part of an existing Anganwadi Program run throughout India, which provides underprivileged slum children a daily nutritious meal, education and medical health check ups. Most of the existing anganwadis we have visited and renovated are small, poorly lit and have little or no ventilation and are a simple room in private home. Many are in need of urgent attention, and even a small change can go a long way to help these children’s learning environment.
As a Volunteer, you will be giving back so much to a community that needs your help. The satisfaction you will get from working with underprivileged communities in India who have nothing and want to give you everything will be overwhelming. And the differences, no matter how small, are something you will remember forever.
The Anganwadi Project appoints architects with site experience to undertake volunteer roles. If you are interested in volunteering with our project please email us.
Volunteers will pay their way to India, and once there will live and work with partner NGO’s who provide accommodation and some meals. The Anganwadi Project does not take payment for volunteer roles. However, our volunteers have often held fundraisers and collected donations before arriving in India, which goes towards the construction of the anganwadis. Our dedicated volunteers have raised over $30,000 dollars for the project, as well as donating their time and expertise.
